Napa Valley producers have agreed to stop using the term \u201cPort\u201d on their fortified wine labels \u201cout of respect for the NVV\u2019s efforts to protect winemaking place names\u201d and winemakers in the Douro \u2013 the world\u2019s oldest denominated wine region where Port is made\u201d. \u201cProtecting the Napa name and preventing consumer confusion are top priorities for the NVV,\u201d said Emma Swain, incoming chair of the board of the 525-plus member organization and CEO of St. Sup\u00e9ry Estate Vineyards & Winery. \u201cIf we\u2019re asking other regions to respect our name, we\u2019ve got to walk the talk. We applaud these three member wineries for doing the right thing and we encourage other vintners to follow suit.\u201d The announcement was made at the Napa Valley Vintners Annual Meeting, at which Vincent Perrin, director general of the Comit\u00e9 Champagne (CIVC), delivered the keynote address.
